ROBERT E. KULHAWY
Co-Author of the Canadian Creed
Born: Calgary, Alberta, 1959
A successful Canadian entrepreneur, philanthropist, environmentalist and catalyst for social change, Robert has been the recipient of numerous personal and corporate awards.
Robert currently serves as:
- Chairman/CEO of Commerx Corporation – a leader in Telecom Services network transformation, Billing Revenue Management, and Digital Technology Solutions with projects, staff, operations and clients across North America, Central America and the Caribbean
- Member Board of Directors of BURNCO Rock Products Ltd. Chair of the Technology Committee. Member of the HR & Comp Committee.
- Executive Chairman of CLAS (Canadian Land Access Systems)
- Member of Board of Directors of Canada Water Portal
And is currently a member of:
- The Commanderie de Bordeaux, Confrerie du Tastevin, Chaine des Rotisseurs, Ordre Mondial, Ranchmen’s Club, and the Glencoe Club

A few of Robert’s past business accomplishments include:
As founder/Principal (former CEO 1991-2000 and Executive Chairman 2000-2014) of newterra Group Ltd. – a global leader in the research, development and manufacturer of practical environmental and water treatment solutions.
As founder/Principal, President and CEO of HFI Flooring, Canada’s largest distributor of wood flooring and accessories (sold March 2001).
As President/CEO/Owner of Nicks Flooring Service LTD, Robert grew the business to become Alberta’s largest flooring retailer and contractor.
Robert has received numerous political and service appointments.
Some of his past capacities/appointments include:
- Member of Canada’s National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy
- Member of the Committee appointed by Parliament to monitor Canada’s performance under the Kyoto Protocol. (KPIA)
- Global Advisory Board of the Thomas and Charles Edison Foundations
- International President and the structural architect of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization
- Member of the President’s Council and international board member of the Young President’s Organization (YPO)
- Long time judge of the finals of the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards
- Chairman of the Alberta Premiers’ CEO Advisory Board (2014/2015)
- Chairman of the Prime Ministers CEO budgetary review team (1995)
- Founder and Chair of the YPO Cascadia Chapter
- Inaugural and long-term Chair of the YPO Fellowship Forum

In 1997 Robert and Jill founded the YPO Homes of Hope Program. To date they have traveled in excess of 50 times to Mexico and the developing world to build and donate homes for the poor. Today as a result of this initiative over 7000 families have been the recipient of these homes.
Robert is co-author of “The Canadian Creed”.
Robert is a featured speaker on business, political strategy and governance, water and environment, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, wine, and technological innovation.
Robert advocates businesses donating their excess capacity to worthwhile charitable endeavors.
Robert is passionate in his desire to help Canadians be proud of and excited about this great country. He advocates Canadians reading our Creed at the start of every public event and function held across the country.
Even with a packed and busy full-time schedule for his business, philanthropic and family endeavors, Robert makes time to be an advocate of the Canadian Creed.
THE HONOURABLE ALBERT LUDWIG
Co-Author of the Canadian Creed (November 14th 1919 – February 16th 2019)
Albert Ludwig was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan. He was raised in Alberta, where he moved with his family at age two. In 1940 he joined the Canadian Army and in 1941 he was transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force. First as a Navigator, and then as a Bomb Aimer, he flew in Wellingtons, Lancasters and Halifax aircraft.
On June 13th, 1944 he was shot down over Cambrai, France and managed to elude enemy capture until July 17, 1944, spending 11 months in a Nazi prisoner camp.
After the war, he attended the University of Alberta and graduated with a B.A. and an LLB. He articled for a year and upon completion, went into private practice in Calgary in 1952.
In 1959 he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and in 1969 he was appointed Minister of Public Works, a position he held until 1971. He remained an MLA until 1975, practicing law once again after leaving the Legislature. In 1980 he was pointed to the Provincial Criminal Court of Alberta as a judge, a position which he held until his retirement in 1989.
Albert Ludwig was a man of immense character and integrity who has dedicated his life to the service of the country he loves – Canada.
It is a privilege for me to have worked with Albert on the Canadian Creed for so many years, and for me to say Albert was my friend and mentor. My life is brighter having known him.
